almost from the very beginning of his campaign, or so it seems, donald trump has been followed around by a coterie of translators employed just to be dispatched in order to clarify what he really meant (unusual for someone admired for always saying what's really on his mind and what supposedly the rest of us are really thinking) that is when not specifically calling out the members of the evil liberal community for misreporting or purposely distorting his words by using actual quotes. also, again from the very outset, these spokespersons, or surrogates as they are sometimes called, have become known for saying some rather outlandish things all on their own or, to put it more bluntly, displaying astoundingly high levels of stupidity and outright ignorance.
it's a wide spectrum, ranging from the simple apologists to the most vociferous defenders depending on whether or not they're actual active members of the campaign or simply passionate supporters. one of the most frequently derided ones from those in the 'active' category is katrina 'obama invaded afghanistan' pierson who, like rudy 'no successful terrorist attacks before obama' giuliani, seems to delight in rewriting history. but since we've come to expect things like this from those who actively work from the front office, let's concentrate on those who work on the fringe.
we have what might be considered simply avid (but no less vocal) supporters like ann coulter who like others considers trump 'the gift from god' sent to save america from the invading hordes of THEM being sent by other THEMs to destroy the righteous white, christian american way of life. this is very evident in the title of ann's newest must-read, IN TRUMP WE TRUST: 'e pluribus awesome'. note our salvation no longer depends on the almighty but fully in the cheeto-dusted hands of the apparently divine donald. and what the fuck is with the cheesy mix of latin and 'valley-girl' for the subtitle? there is one thing that, depending on how you feel about ann, has either an up- or down-side. with his recent 'softening' to his initial pledge to expel 11 million illegal immigrants, it appears her love is being tested. she has said she has often given donald constructive criticism in the past and this is one of those times. saying that it sounds like something coming from his consultants, who i guess she thinks are trying to talk him into pandering to the more moderates among us, she calls this adjustment to his original stand 'a mistake'. i'm assuming that unless donald returns to his initial pledge of mass deportations we can expect her to take to her bed, overtaken by the vapors and vowing never to speak again until she gets her beloved back. we can only hope.
then we have jesse watters, who could be considered a surrogate's surrogate, who said during an appearance on cnn after donald made his proposal about 'more extreme vetting' that a possible terrorist event, which he called 'an october surprise', would be beneficial and make donald a more attractive candidate. others on the panel seemed shocked that he would engage in such 'un-american wishful thinking', something he denied, saying he was only engaging in some 'political analysis'.
of course, what would a list like this be without the addition of one of the people known best for saying ridiculous things, michelle bachmann and in the past week it appears she has done everything to surpass herself. before trump's recent appearance in minneapolis it seems she met with him in what she claims was her chance to advise him on foreign affairs and the increasing threat of radical islam in minnesota and the world. so just like her bestie-in-christ, sarah 'i can see russia from my house' palin michelle now thinks that she has the chops to advise a presidential candidate on foreign affairs. oh, and to advocate for the beleaguered conservative christian community. also, during an interview, on where else but breitbart, concerning the minneapolis rally-turned-fundraiser that was beset with protests (some allegedly turning violent with vulgarities being thrown, name-calling and spitting), she really heaped it on calling the protesters 'deranged' and 'rent-a-mobs' becoming 'rent-a-thugs' all under the employ of hillary in order to intimidate her political opponents by 'looking for a beat-down'. this 'mob', estimated in the star-tribune to be in the dozens, apparently scared michelle and others (depends on demand?) but no arrests were made. some attendees were reportedly escorted out of the venue by police. michelle caled that a 'violent gauntlet' while there were no reported injuries. and since the whole thing appears to have been, in the viewpoint of michelle and her friends at breitbart and a local minnesota blogger downplayed or under-reported by the paper that's only further indicative of a COVER UP!!! and clinton/liberal bias. the bachmann/breitbart coalition called on clinton to disavow such violent outbursts, something they didn't seem to feel was an appropriate thing to do when trump supporters attacked protesters at trump rallies, but, after all, donald himself said his people weren't violent, just 'passionate'. all the while michelle heaped praise on her friends as they both promised to press on until hillary folded.
while i could expand the list with such luminaries in the art of conservative media spin and experts at saying outlandish things, including bill o'really (not a mistake), alex jones and the other fuming fatass whose name currently slips my mind (i know i'll kick myself), many of the new faces making a name for themselves but also seem to have dropped off my radar for the moment seem to be women. this may be trump's attempt to pander to the gentler (?) sex but it does seem, in my opinion, to point to the fact that he hires those he feels he's most easily able to control. but two, while not to be considered amateurs are in no way new to the field. kellyann conway is a veteran pollster, commentator and frequent fox guest, this time with a law degree. so far not really putting her mark on the campaign she has proven herself to be an expert in the art of talking in circles and never giving a direct answer to any question when asked. stephen bannon, late of breitbart news website is noted for embracing most conspiracy theories that cross his path and passing them along as fact. plus, a real renaissance man, he also wrote a rap musical. what remains to be seen is how much of his crew he'll bring with him, turning the trump campaign into a breitbart subsidiary. then again, his presence might just be a foretelling of the rumored trump news network said to be in the making. he hasn't said much which could be evidence of the axiom 'silence is golden' since we might not really know what's adrift in his creepy little mind.
one name that should be evident in it's absence is obviously that of the big T himself but since almost everything he says is either absurd or a lie trying to put him on a list of 'stupid things they've said' would be an exercise in futility. there's not enough time and i have neither the patience nor the stomach.
