BITS AND PIECES 16

well, if there's one thing you can say for sure about donald trump he's nothing if not optimistic, even if it is delusionally so.  always evident on so many levels at so many times it became so again during his appearance at a rally in dimondal, michigan on friday.   not unlike his rally-cum-policy-address tuesday in west bend he decided to use this as a call-out for support from the african-american community with one slight difference.   while west bend boasts a 1.6% black constituency, dimondal can say it's way more diverse, coming it at a massive 7%.   other than that the crowds he addressed were predominantly (all?) white.  and with that similarity came the call for whatever black community he thought he was addressing to rally behind him, for after all the years of the democratic party failing them on every level, as he put it 'what have you got to lose'.   tell me, does he honestly want an answer to that?   i mean, with polls rating him at 0 - 1% approval among black voters he also told them, and here's the optimistic part, 'i guarantee you that after four years i'll have 95% of the african-american voters'. where he'll have them he doesn't say, and i don't know about you but i don't know whether to take that as a promise or a threat.

while we're on dimondale, it's come to my attention that as trump was speaking people began filing out.  lots of people.   was it something he said?   some were claiming it was because the venue was crowded and hot and they were feeling ill.   (feeling ill? again i have to ask, was it something he said?).   others were claiming it was because they wanted to beat the traffic.   apparently there were other things more important than listening to a man i'll assume they came to support expound on his plans to 'make america great again'.  i'm betting there was at least one who wanted to make sure they didn't leave the oven on and possibly just one who wanted to stick their head into said oven.

as donald was going on with his own unique brand of minority outreach in the upper midwest there was a storm a'brewin' along that same front down in the sunshine state.   sean jackson, head of the black republican caucus of southern florida has accused the state campaign director, karen giorno, of doing a 'piss poor' job, ignoring his advice and even having him thrown out of a recent campaign event recently after he'd been cleared by secret service and throwing a fit, denying she even knew him. while trying to get his point across, calling, texting and e-mailing on a daily basis, he says he has been ignored at every turn.  that, i'm guessing, is what some people consider a positive example of community outreach.

so, while donald continues to court black votes while speaking in predominantly white communities to predominantly white audiences, his surrogates claim he's 'on the cutting edge of civil rights' (maybe in the style of george wallace) and one saying that maybe black voters would respond more positively to donald's message if they were accompanied by images of burning cars (a reference to the unrest in milwaukee).   and rudy couldn't help but heap more praise on his good buddy by proclaiming him to be 'so brave', going into milwaukee and speak while riots raged around him.   well, actually, 'brave' to go and speak 25 miles from where the unrest was really unfolding, but who am i to be the one to quibble about a mere 25 miles.

moving on, something donald decided to do in order to put his more warm and fuzzy side on display, donald and his personally-pick hand puppet mikey went to flood-ravaged louisianna in order to prove he really does have a heart or, as breitbart delighted in pointing out TRUMP VISITS LOUISIANNA FLOOD VICTIMS AS HILLARY RESTS AND OBAMA VACATIONS.   a few things, however, are left out of the way this scenario is presented.   first of all, gov. john bel edwards had previously asked mr. trump not to come down at this time due to security concerns and logistics involved in such a visit but,  am i to be considered somewhat cynical if i were to feel that showing up, without notice, was just his way of flipping off the governor, a democrat, with his usual 'i do what i want when i want' attitude?   the governor was concerned the visit would just prove to be an opportunity for a series of photo-ops.   it appears that's exactly what it turned into, beginning with a tour, by limousine no less, through the trash-strewn streets to the church being used to distribute relief supplies where he was met with applause, a few cheers and one woman who greeted him with 'you showed up, that's what counts', to which he replied something like "some people do, some people don't".   another dig, this time at president obama who, by the way, was specifically asked to delay any visits due to the same security and logistical concerns involved. we then apparently moved on to some selfie-taking and autograph-signing before moving on inside, where it's reported the team handed out supplies.   now, i have yet to find any pictures but i'm sure they exist since pictures like this are the gold standard in political photo-ops.   then more 'blahblahblah', handshakes, selfies, autographs, hugs.   hugs?   donald trump gives HUGS?  side hugs, maybe, but not. real. hugs.   i mean, who do you think he is, obama?
