well, no surprise, almost along party lines the united states senate voted to acquit individual 1 and not remove him from office, but denying him the chance to claim the whole procedure was purely partisan mitt romney stepped up to break from his party and cast the lone 'guilty' vote from the right of the aisle.
this, of course left him open to the insults and name-calling he himself said he was expecting and ready for.
immediately after vote the insults began, including tweets from the white house, in which the recently acquitted called mitt 'a democratic asset' and smacked at his using his religion to justify his guilty vote, and one from idiot junior who 'demanded' mitt be "expelled" from the republican party. later in the morning, daddy dumphouque entered the national prayer breakfast, a traditionally bi-partisan and typically apolitical annual event, waiving a copy of usatoday emblazoned with the all-caps headline "ACQUITTED", and proceeded to turn an interfaith expression of the importance of faith into an annex of one of his rallies. after a speech by arthur brooks in which the attendees were urged to "exercise moral courage" and overcome anger, sarcasm and derision with love and make a public commitment to "ask God to take political contempt from your heart.", it came time for donald to speak. he began by saying, "Arthur, I don't know if I agree with you. I don't think Arthur is going to like what I'm going to say."
and he was off, wasting no time in going after every and anyone he considered his enemies. "As everyone knows, my family, our great country and your president have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people...". re-referencing romney (but not by name) he went on to say "I don't like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong." of course, what's wrong is 'anything' that contradicts what he says is right. and with nancy pelosi sitting only feet away, but again without attaching a name, he proceeded, "Nor do I like people who say 'I pray for you' when they know that that's not so.", adding "So many people have been hurt. And we can't let that go on." hmmmm, not sure about you but that sounded a little like a threat to me.
and as John Fea, usatoday contributor, put it "And his evangelical supporters cheered."
later in the day it was time for an appearance before a roomful of sycophants and other assorted butt-kissers, including an hour of live coverage by every major network, for the handing out of executive head-pats, belly-rubs and chin scratches (mcturtle gets lots of those) to thank them for their undying love and devotion...to him, not necessarily the country...and once again take the chance to show his base how much he's adored, even as he bravely recovers from all the unfair treatment he's been forced to endure.
and just like at breakfast, the room went wild.
ONE MORE THING:
while making his remarks at breakfast, doing what he needed to do in order to keep his god-fearing flock securely in the pen, he made this statement. let's see if anybody can spot a little slip, possibly of the freudian variety.
"Since the foundation of our nation, many of our greatest strides - from gaining our independence to abolition of civil rights to extending the vote for women - have been led by people of faith."
imho, it seems there are still some 'people of faith' who are doing what they can to deny some people their civil rights.
but maybe that's just me.
