"MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"?

After Trump's announcement last Friday (the 13th, no less) that the United States in coordination with French and British support would begin attacks on Syrian sites suspected of being connected with the chemical attack on the city of Douma he finished off his acts of bravado with a Saturday tweet that ended with the phrase "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED", a phrase that his aides reportedly tried to dissuade him from using because of it's rather controversial history.

I'm sure that those of us of a certain age remember the image of President 'W' standing on the deck of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln in 2003 to send out the same, though at the time rather premature, message since the fighting in much of the area continues to this day.  I'm not here to litigate the war and what could/should/might have been done or who's to blame for what and when but in today's political climate with the current administration I come forward to ask one simple question:
Exactly what "MISSION" are we to believe has been "ACCOMPLISHED"?

With the non-chaos chaos that appears to be engulfing the White House since practically Day One, despite the fact that we're being told by multiple sources, 'There is no chaos, everything is running like a well-oiled machine', we have borne witness to numerous firings, revelations of scandal in multiple versions and reported infighting and contention on many levels.  With each new report, usually from some 'source with knowledge of the situation who has asked not to be identified' who is then labeled by someone such as Sarah Huckabee Sanders or Kellyanne Conway or any number of surrogates who are required to do damage control as a 'leaker' claiming Mr./Ms. Anonymous is trying to undermine The Agenda by creating "FAKE NEWS" and should be prosecuted for spreading atrocious lies.  And if there's anything these people know well it's atrocious lies even when confronted by audio or video evidence.  Then if any that fails to quell any further questions they resort to their fallback position of trying to blame whatever it is they can't support with facts on Clinton (either Hillary or Bill) or Obama hoping that people are too stupid, and unfortunately many are, to research for themselves.  After all, they were told as he did on the campaign trail during a speech on August 18th, 2016 that "I will never lie to you".  He did qualify that by adding "I will never tell you something I do not believe" (one of his very first example was his declarations about the size of his inaugural crowd) or, I'm assuming, what he hasn't been fed by his 'advisers' on Fox.

Anyway, returning to the question of what "MISSION" was supposedly "ACCOMPLISHED", was it to dangle a new shiny to distract from the investigation into Russian involvement in trying to influence the 2016 election and the possible coordination with members of the Trump campaign (NO COLLUSION!!!)?  Or maybe to distract from the 'alleged' liaison (I refrain from calling it an affair since it appears to be a one-off, and who could blame her?  Really?  A spanky-spanky session with a guy who complemented you by saying "you remind me of my daughter".  Ewwww!).  Maybe it's an attempt to draw away some of the publicity from the release of Jim Comey's book and it's salacious-though-smirk-inducing dredging up of the infamous 'pee-pee' tapes which Trump seemed to obsess over since, as I understand is claimed in the book, he was concerned that his wife may not be totally convinced it didn't happen (i.e. a 1% chance, which is a surprisingly low for someone who is supposed to trust their spouse.  However, the same thing could be said of her as it is about Trump voters...even with the lies, the cheating, all the evidence of unchristian behavior, she/they knew what they were getting)?

There are probably more but I'm not sure to go back over all the things he's said and done in the past year-and-a-half-plus would be good for my health, both physical and mental.  But this most recent, doing what he criticized Obama for in a series of tweets (of course, how else) from back in 2013 and using the same message as Bush did is not, in my humble opinion, going to result in the desired reaction.  The patriotic atmosphere, which was still feeding off the events of 9/11, has changed.  There are no videos of rockets streaking across night skies, exploding and silhouetting city skylines.  There are no reports from those on scene describing in detail what they're seeing and hearing.  There will be no images of Syrian civilians celebrating in the streets because they're overjoyed to be 'liberated'.

So, exactly what "MISSION" has been "ACCOMPLISHED" except possibly one more attempt to distract from another reminder that the emperor has no clothes?  Then again he'll always (or at least for now) have Kellyanne, Sarah and all those in Congress who continue to stand behind him to shower him with compliments and ask who his tailor is.
