It all started with the comments about Mexicans and his promise to BUILD THE WALL after he descended on his golden escalator. Then came the since modified pledge to ban all Muslims. Then came the insult laden debates, and not just directed at his fellow contenders but his 'bleeding from the...wherever' whine about the unfair treatment he claims he received from Megyn Kelley which was a portent of the many misogynistic comments to come, culminating in the now infamous (and apparently inconsequential) pussy-groping tape. Then the exhortations to his ralliers of violence, the encouragement to his 'second amendment people' inferring assassination, the invitation to a foreign agency to hack his opponent (more on that later) and the myriad of lies that had to be constantly explained and defended, despite the fact that it was always said one of the main reasons people loved him was that he spoke the truth, 'said what's on his mind' and always meant what he said...except, it seems, when he didn't know what he was talking about. Add on the plethora of 3 a.m. tweets and we're reaching a depth of WTF's never before experienced during any political discourse, let alone one aimed at producing a president. If these moments could produce an aroma it would make the stench coming off of a stockyard seem Chanel-fragrant by comparison.
But little did we know that this was only the tip of the WTF iceberg.
It was bad enough when he appointed the ceo of an 'alt-right' (I hate that term, much preferring the not-so-politically-correct descriptive term 'racist') website, it should have become more apparent that when he pledged during his campaign to 'drain the swamp' he was in actuality calling for a dredging of the cesspool and putting the mucky dregs in positions of power and responsibility. Some examples from his list are:
his choice to head the department of education is a billionaire who disparages the public education system, has never sent her kids to a public school (and has never attended a public school herself) and has no experience in education.
an energy secretary who has been in the pocket of 'big oil' for his entire political career and did, in the past, say that as president he would eliminate the department he has been chosen to lead.
a housing secretary who....i'm lost on this one as to why...who just might initiate sexuality and religious tests to determine the rules regarding just who is qualified to receive housing assistance and what regulations might be put in place so that landlords might be able to refuse renting to people on religious 'principle'.
the head of the V.A. I'm assuming because her son was a veteran, albeit only because it was serve in the armed forces or serve time on drug charges and she knows how returning veterans need help because he became a drunken, wife abuser due to PTSD...even though he never served in a combat situation. And of course she blamed it all on Obama.
a secretary of state because he is a good negotiator and knows how to make the best deal (i'm guessing he read the Trump bible, 'THE ART OF THE DEAL'), has made billions of dollars in his close relationships with Russia and received a medal, presented by Putin himself, because he's such a 'good friend of Russia'.
a national security adviser who has been accused of inappropriately sharing classified material (he says he had permission) with Afghan military and our British and Australian allies while leading chants of "lock her up!' at a trump rally in regards to Hillary's email 'scandal'. And his son is a proponent of conspiracy theories such as 'pizzagate'.
a chief White House strategist who was accused of spousal abuse (but the charges were dropped when his wife refused to appear in court, claiming she was threatened by his attorneys), was accused of being anti-Semitic because he once said he didn't want his kids going to school with Jews because they were all just 'whiny brats' and in his previous incarnation ran a website wherein racists and white supremacists were welcomed with open arms and he bragged about being the creator and voice of 'the alt-right' while printing stories that have come to be known as 'fake news'.
And that's just a partial list. Granted, most of those have yet to be confirmed by the Senate and hopefully they're not tone-deaf to the facts that, in most cases they're like their potential boss.....unqualified for their positions. Of course, as we'll probably be reminded from certain circles the end result will be just what's good for the party. Or is it what's good for the country? I'm never sure if they're the same thing to some people.
So that pretty much brings us to the biggest WTF revelation and actually it's not really that new. If one remembers it was back when the DNC was revealed to have been hacked and during the debates it became a contentious point between the two candidates with Clinton repeating the accusations against the Russian hacking while Trump said it could be anybody, even a 400-pound man sitting on a couch in a basement somewhere in the world. All the while Donald kept going on about the election being rigged, however I don't think this is in the way he was inferring and here we are, months later, still hearing there is that agreement among 17 national security agencies that there is proof the Russians, whether that be government endorsed or not, had a hand in at least trying to affect the 2016 presidential election, be it to get a certain candidate elected or to discredit another. Now, the point of all this is that while spending every debate, every rally decrying the system was rigged, now that the votes are in (and totally ignoring the fact that his opponent received nearly 3 million more popular votes than he), the evidence that seems to exist that Russia may have had its sticky little fingers probing our democratic process is now inconsequential to him. So, I'm guessing, as long as the rigging was in his favor it should be brushed off, ignored and we should simply accept the final result and 'move on'. But with members on both political sides saying that the whole thing needs investigating and even members of the electoral college requesting (some say demanding) more information before their meeting, claims from the Trump camp that this is all purely a partisan ploy to call his election into question (sorry, too late. The calls been out and can't be pulled back) by a bunch of whining sore losers. And, mind you, along with throwing his support behind an investigation which could go a long way towards justifying and verifying what he claims is his fair election, it must be noted that the simple act of releasing his tax returns would do a lot to alleviate some suspicions and anxieties, but at this time I wouldn't recommend anybody hold their breath on either one which can only lead me to believe he's got something possibly very incriminating to hide. But maybe I'm just to be considered one of those sore losers.
So, there we have it: a list of people he wishes to put in positions of power, all be it abbreviated and incomplete. A list that shows they have little to no qualifications to advance the agendas for the departments for which they have been selected and in some cases have expressed the desire to dismantle or seriously cripple them, thus threatening the millions of people they were designed to serve. And we have yet to consider that the man who is supposed to have the security and welfare of the country as his primary concern hasn't bothered to attend even one-quarter the security briefings that have been scheduled because, and get this, in his own words, "I'm smart". As he said, they're just the same-old-same-old, repetitive sessions, time after time, and for a man who once claimed he knew more than all the generals it's apparently a boring waste of his time, especially when he has something much more important to do, like tour the country on his "Thank you" tour, also known as the "I WON SO NOW YOU CAN KISS MY ASS...i mean RING" tour, speaking to the people who already voted for him, making no real attempt to appear more inclusive or reaching out, as he promisedI in his acceptance speech, to represent all Americans and help bring us together as a nation. But, to be fair, a couple of his surrogates did make attempts to reach out to those upset by his victory, although proposing flag burners be sent to jail and protesters be arrested and tried as 'economic terrorists' may not exactly be considered 'healing remarks'.
At this time the pile of WTFs is so deep it's too late to save the shoes, socks or even the pants. We can only expect them to become even deeper between now and inauguration day. By that time I can only imagine we'll need a backhoe and intense therapy, if not heavy medication.
UPDATE: Today, the Trump team announced that the security briefings would be upped from once to three-times-a-week. It's possible, though highly unlikely, that someone may have suggested the "I'm smart" comment didn't come off as sounding so smart. Egotistic, narcissistic? Definitely and much more in line with how he usually sounds but smart? Not so much.
