now that chris christie and mike huckabee have been down-graded to the due to decreasing poll numbers, perhaps it is the right time to remember those who have gone before.

Rick Perry
round 1:  after denying any aspirations for higher political office for about a year, perry officially announced his run for the presidency in august of 2011 and almost immediately found himself on top of the polls by double digits (29% to second place mitt romney at 18%) but after a rather embarrassing debate appearance....remember, he said he'd eliminate 3 cabinet posts but could only name two, forgetting which would be his third choice, 'ummming' to come up with an answer?   by the time of the iowa primary he had dropped to 5th place and in january, 2012 he dropped out of the race.
returning to texas, he decided to retire and not run for a fourth term, but seemed to remain a viable possibility for the next cycle with his name being juggled like a slowly deflating ball.
round 2:  announcing his intention to run once more in june of 2015, he was at the time under the cloud of two indictments (one was eventually dropped in july, but the second, a lesser charge of abuse of power which carries a potential sentence of 5 - 99 years remains in effect), but his polling and fund-raising were so lack-luster that by september 11th he decided to suspend his campaign and became the first candidate to drop out of the race.   apparently the glasses didn't help.  


Scott Walker
once considered the 'golden boy' of the conservative party because of his 'successes' as governor of wisconsin (like dismantling public unions, comparing demonstrators to terrorists and surviving a recall),  scott played with his base claiming he was waiting for a 'sign from god' that would tell him when and if the time was right for him to run.   ignoring a campaign promise he'd made that his job as governor was most important and he would concentrate on that for the next 4 years, he began crossing the country, making appearances and not-so-subtly raising his profile and money while not officially running.   at an april fundraiser in new york he was even proclaimed, by david koch no less, as the next republican nominee. the charade that he was still playing governor finally ended when, on july 13th, he officially announced he was running for president.  apparently that sign finally came
despite the fact that he was ranked as high as 3rd most conservative candidate and polling reasonably well, his initial debate appearance was, to be kind, lackluster under the increasingly harsh light of donald trump and numbers and donations dropped until, on september 15th, snotty scotty, the cock-eyed former wonder puppet of the koch brothers, suspended his campaign after barely 2 months.
it's true.   all that glitters is not gold.

and now, with chris 'crispy cream' christie and uncle reverend huckclebuck now relegated to the kid's table, there may be more remembrances in the near future.   but i have only one request.   please do not send flowers.   just pay attention and vote.   our future depends on it.
