i really hope stupid is not contagious.

in just the past couple of days i have been exposed to several examples of stupid that have me sincerely praying that stupid is not contagious.  should scientific study prove that it is, i predict, here and now, that the human race is truly doomed.  in anticipation of such a cataclysm, i think all necessary funds should begin to be diverted for studies into the prevention and cure of HSS...human stupidity syndrome.  let me give you some examples of why i believe HSS could be almost inevitable.  i suggest that anyone with a weak heart, or the tendency to believe outlandish-bordering -on-the-inane ideas, should stop reading here.  i cannot be held responsible for any undue suffering that may result.
let's start with one of the most recent and more innocuous ones to come to my attention.  BILL NYE was booed at a gathering in texas (where else?)  when he dared to state that the moon does not give off a light of it's own, only reflecting sunlight.  HOW DARE HE!!  creationist, ray comfort, says bill is totally wrong because, among other reasons, didn't beethoven write a song about moonlight?  and we all know what an expert beethoven was on the moon and other scientific phenomenon (no offense, ludwig).
next, we have a statement from an old reliable. "GO-GO" GOHMERT. in response to the tragedy in washington d.c., that the answer to violent acts such as this (and too many in the recent past) is "more guns", that blaming an increase in gun violence on the the proliferation of guns is like saying "obesity is the result of too many spoons".  oh, gohmer, what you're saying, then, is that in order to put out a fire you should pour on more gasoline.  sure.  why not?  but just to make myself clear, and stay on with the silverware metaphors.....fork you.
staying on the topic of the d.c. shootings, ALEX JONES, conspiracy aficionado, has claimed it was all a set-up and staged simply to "discredit" him.  if he wants to take credit for some of the most incredulous, inane, stupid-beyond-belief theories ever put out there, fine by me.  but what an egomaniac to think that anybody with even 1/10th a brain puts any more than a fart-of-thought into his ravings or his importance.  i get the feeling he has to inject himself into all these scenarios because he felt ignored as a child and mommy didn't love him enough.
we move now, to wisconsin, however the subject remains guns.  here we have a father who told his son to lie to police about the shooting of the little boys sister.  now, let me add in a few details:  the little girl was 3; the little boy is 6;  he has been training with guns since HE was 3 and HAS HIS OWN RIFLE!  now, these "responsible" parents had told him he was not to use the gun without supervision, but the father "thought" the gun was unloaded and had left the kids alone with the gun UNSECURED.  so many layers of stupid on this one, i can't begin to tell you.
then, we had the "self-proclaimed" christian t.v. prophet who claims she re-grew a woman's cheekbones in seconds" and can remove "satanic tumors" (although what makes a tumor "satanic" is not explained).  we also had some in the sports world who, when talking about the recent settlement and discussion of serious head traumas, have claimed it is a "liberal conspiracy" to feminize the sport, that the players are only in it for the money and they should just "man up" and "play through the pain".
there are so many examples of stupid actions, comments, theories, but i have to return to ALEX JONES for the most bizarre of them all.  according to him, the whole kerfuffle (don't mean to make light of the situation) is nothing but a smoke-screen for the true agenda....according to AJ, it is nothing but an attempt by obama, the united nations and a cadre of "globalist elitists" to, not only destroy the human race (as we know it) but lead it (or whats left) through life-extending technologies transformed into cyborgs, half living/half machine.   creatures.  if you're a trekkie, think borg.  here i have to quote him:

to me, that's one-too-many science fiction books and movies as a kid.  or maybe he's hoping to sell it as a screen play.  but to think he ACTUALLY BELIEVES what he's saying?  i'm sorry but the man needs to have his medications adjusted.  and those who listen to him and take it all in with no question?  i've got nothin' but a great big WTF?!  i've been hearing conspiracy theories since the assassination of john kennedy, but ...guys!  really??  c'mon!!  can you really be that DENSE??  if THAT is contagious, can there be any doubt we're in serious, SERIOUS trouble.
so, now you see my concerns.  if we could go to a doctor and hear him say, "good, no signs of stupid today, see you in six months." or, "i'm detecting a mild case of stupid, but i have something you can take for it." or, better yet, a vaccine against stupid would be ideal.  in reality, we already have one of those.  it's called "useyourgoddamnedbrain".  question.  check.  re-check.  never take anything at face value.  keep your ears and mind open.  floss...rinse..spit (just wanted to see if you were paying attention).  do these things and we can help stem the spread of HSS....before it's too late.
P.S.  i no sooner published, when another one came to my attention.  disgraced navy chaplain, "chaps" klingenschmitt (and if i got the spelling wrong...tough) has come out with one very compelling reason why obamacare (aca) should be overturned.  it causes cancer.  any question why he's disgraced?
