the christian sharia

so much has been said, written and posted over the past several days concerning the on-going discussion over gay marriage.  personally, the word marriage is being mis-used.  as much as some would like to consider marriage as being the primary focus, it boils down to equality being sought by people who want EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW when they want to express their commitment to one another, whether it be before friends, before a judge or, yes, before the god of their beliefs.  nowhere does or would it state that churches would be forced to perform or recognize such a union.  i would not walk into any house of worship and make such a demand.  and yet, the christian right is walking into my space and insisting that i believe as they do.  and they insist such laws be created that insist that everyone believe that way.  you know what they call a system that insists on conformity of religious belief?  that's right.  something that they have vigorously shouted that we must defend ourselves against...sharia law.  not an american sounding system to me.  a governmental system based on a strict religious interpretation is definitely not what the founding fathers (and mothers) had in mind; in fact, that is what most of them were fleeing from in the first place.  many religions do not agree with the concept of marriage equality, and that is their right within the confines of their religion.  there should be no argument on that point.  but, under the law, when this church says their god is the true god, our reading of the scripture is the only right one, or how we sing, pray or on what day of the week or how many times a day...which church has the right to tell somebody else they are wrong?  so then, which church has the right to write the rules for everyone else?  when it comes down to it, who i love and wish to commit myself to, is nobody else's business, and if what i do IS objectionable, then that will be between me and whatever god i choose when, and IF, we should ever meet.                                                                   so, you may disapprove, but that's going to be your problem.  just tell me that UNDER THE LAW i am the same as you, no better, no worse.  the rest i'll deal with when the time comes, god willing.
